 Help Change the Names!

On June 25th, 2020 the Shenandoah County School Board in Virginia unanimously voted to adopt a Resolution condemning racism and affirming the Division's commitment to an inclusive school environment for all. Subsequently, on July 9, 2020, in a 5 to 1 vote the School Board voted to retire the names of two of our Confederate named schools, Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby-Lee Elementary School, and retire the Rebel mascot at North Fork Middle School. Shenandoah Forward was formed to assist with this effort. Our mission is “to ensure students of Shenandoah County are educated in an environment that fosters compassion, understanding and acceptance of all, regardless of differences.” Learn more here.

Righting History One Donation (or Like) At A Time

Shenandoah Forward is seeking to raise $500,000 by April 30th to offset the costs associated with the name change. All donations are tax-deductible, and funds raised will be used to purchase new uniforms, new athletic equipment, signage and meet other needs and expenses related to the name change of two schools and mascot of one school. Should funds be raised in excess of what is needed to cover costs of these changes, those monies will be utilized to further realize equity and inclusion within our school division. You can be a part of making history by making right what was historically wrong.
